Cone Collection

PURPOSE: To collect Douglas-fir cones

STATUS: Ongoing

BENEFITS:

1. Reforest the Douglas-fir stands

2. Overstory retention to help regenerate un-salvaged sites back to Douglas-fir

3. Recover uneconomical fibre


CCR was able to collect “B” class Douglas-fir cones from the IDFxm to be able to use in sowing activities to regenerate burned Fir stands.


Collected ~175hL of cones.


Roughly 9.7 million potential seedlings available.


Seed good for use throughout the IDFxm, IDFdk3, IDFdk4, SBPSdc and SBPSxc using CBST guidelines. Can almost be used anywhere W of Williams Lake within the Cariboo Region for rehabilitating burned Douglas-fir stands.
