CentralCR

William Lake B.C. - Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. (CCR), a joint venture company founded by Tŝideldel First Nation and Tl’etinqox Government in 2017, is proud to welcome the Yunesit’in Government as a partner. This milestone marks a significant step forward in CCR’s mission to coordinate large-scale forestry programs, provide sustainable economic opportunities for its member communities, and ensure the long-term health of the region’s traditional forest land-base.

CCR has received widespread recognition for its innovative approach to forest rehabilitation and wildfire recovery, earning accolades such as the B.C. Achievement’s Business Partnership of the Year, Forest Products Association of Canada Indigenous Business of the Year, Williams Lake & District Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, and many others. The company’s efforts include reforestation, wildlife habitat restoration, and maximizing the use of fire-affected wood fibre, all under the guidance of its Indigenous partners.

Chief Lennon Solomon of Yunesit’in Government shared his vision for joining CCR, citing his deep-rooted experience in forestry and his community’s desire to enhance its capacity in the industry.

"I wanted to strengthen our nation's forestry activities,” said Chief Solomon. “Joining CCR gives us the opportunity to develop bigger capacity in the forest industry and move towards becoming a sovereign community."

The Yunesit’in Government’s decision to join CCR comes at a critical time for the community. It was one of the hardest hit by the devastating 2017 wildfires, losing nearly 70 percent of its harvestable timber. Chief Solomon emphasized the importance of learning sustainable forestry practices and engaging in rehabilitation efforts to restore the land for future generations.

"It seems like the perfect time to be planting trees, rehabilitating the land, and learning about the other side of forestry," he shared.

With three of the six Tŝilhqot’in communities now a part of CCR, there is a desire for the partnership to inspire others to join, further strengthening the collective effort to manage and restore the land on traditional territories. Percy Guichon, CCR’s Executive Director, is pleased to welcome Yunesit’in Government to collective group.

“As I have often shared, for decades First Nations have been able to play a supporting role in forestry,” noted Guichon. “We are now in a time where provincial and federal government leaders are looking to us as First Nations people to take the lead. Having the Yunesit’in Government become partners adds to our capacity, experience, and knowledge base to continue the large-scale forest rehabilitation work we’ve been honoured to lead. Chief Lennon and his team bring a lot of forestry know-how and credibility to amplify CCR’s work.”

CCR remains committed to its core values of sustainability, collaboration, and innovation. It welcomes expanded partnerships as an opportunity to expand its impact on the forests and communities of the Cariboo Chilcotin region and beyond. For more information: www.centralcr.ca
