Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. (CCR) is pleased to share that Percy Guichon, CEO of CCR and elected Councillor of Tŝideldel First Nation, joined a British Columbia delegation visiting Finland to learn more about Nordic forestry practices.

The delegation included representatives from community forests, forestry companies, consulting firms, academic institutions, First Nations organizations, and forest management groups across British Columbia.

The discussions also touched on broader forestry priorities, including generational stewardship, local decision-making, workforce development, community bioenergy, and long-term benefits for communities.

For Percy, the visit was an opportunity to see how another forestry region is approaching similar challenges and to consider what ideas may be useful for the work taking place in the Cariboo Chilcotin.

A key point of interest was how Finland connects forest management with local economic opportunity. The delegation learned about community-based systems that create markets for lower-value wood, support local jobs, and help make forest restoration and wildfire risk reduction more practical over the long term.

For CCR, these conversations connect to its work in forest rehabilitation, wildfire recovery, fibre utilization, and long-term stewardship. They also reflect the importance of First Nations leadership in shaping forestry decisions that support the land, communities, and future generations.

“Forestry is always changing, and it is important that we keep learning and adapting,” added Guichon. “This visit gave us a chance to look at different ideas and concepts that may help support better decisions on the land.
