CCR Commemorates National Indigenous History Month & National Indigenous Peoples Day

Williams Lake, B.C.: Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. (CCR) is proud to join communities across Turtle Island (Canada) in commemorating National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21), a time to honour the history, culture, knowledge systems, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples.

As a First Nations-led forestry company, CCR is rooted in the shared vision of three First Nations governments — Tŝideldel First Nation, Tl’etinqox Government, and Yunesit’in Government, who came together to take collective action to take on large-scale forest rehabilitation project in the face of climate change, wildfire devastation, and ongoing threats to their traditional territories.

The formation of CCR was not simply a business decision. It was a declaration of responsibility, a commitment to protect and rehabilitate the land, to carry forward traditional knowledge, and to advance reconciliation through practical leadership focused on the next seven generations.

“Indigenous Peoples have always had a sacred relationship with the land, a relationship based not on ownership or extraction but on reciprocity, respect, and responsibility,” shared Percy Guichon, CEO of CCR and an elected Councillor of Tŝideldel First Nation. “For the Nations that lead CCR, the health of the land is deeply tied to the health and well-being of the people.”

The belief is simple and powerful: “If we look after the land, the land will look after us,” – Otis Guichon, Director of CCR, Chief of Tŝideldel First Nation, and Tribal Chief of the Tsilhqot’in National Government as shared in the video highlighting the social focus of forestry.

Through this philosophy, CCR has become a provincial leader in wildfire risk reduction, reforestation, and large-scale landscape rehabilitation, with its projects receiving national attention and accolades. Unlike conventional forestry models that focus solely on economic output, CCR integrates cultural values, ecosystem resilience, and long-term sustainability into every project.

CCR’s work represents more than land management. It is an expression of Indigenous governance and environmental stewardship. The organization recognizes that forests are not just resources; they are living systems that support cultural practices, food security, biodiversity, and intergenerational healing.

“As we mark National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate the strength, knowledge, and enduring legacy of Indigenous Peoples,” remarked Percy Guichon. “We honour the ancestors who have walked before us, and uplift the youth and leaders of today who are carrying these values forward.”

This month and every month, CCR stands in gratitude for the land, for the people, and for the teachings that guide us. Together, they are building a future rooted in respect, reconciliation, and restoration.

About CCR

Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation is a joint venture of Tŝideldel First Nation, Tl’etinqox Government, and Yunesit’in Government. The joint venture was originally formed to address the 100,000 hectares of dead pine left in the Chilcotin region and to rehabilitate those stands into productive forests. The fires in the summer of 2017 amplified the need to address heavily burned forest stands with minimal economic value. CCR’s mission is to coordinate and implement large-scale forestry programs and initiatives within the traditional territories of the Tŝideldel First Nation, Tl’etinqox Government and Yunesit’in Government, generating economic, social, and environmental benefits.
